One of the events we’ve got up our sleeve is something we’re calling ‘Massey’s Hottest Best Intelligentest Talentedest Cleverest Homosapien’ [see if you can find an acronym in that].

This is a beauty pageant / talent quest for both guys and girls
- and it’s going to be the most hilarious, sexy, ridiculously good time you’ll have had since the mawsa O-Week.

In preparation for this event, we’re already seeking nominations for competitors in Massey’s Hottest Best Intelligentest Talentedest Cleverest Homosapien.

Tomorrow night mawsa is proud to present a psychedelic aural extravaganza of magnificent proportions.

Three of NZ’s most interesting and exciting bands, An Emerald City, Cairo Knife Fight and Spartacus R will descend on the mighty Bodega for an event that will push the boundaries of what you thought you knew about live shows.

AN EMERALD CITY
“For my money this band is the most interesting, musically ambitious and creative I have seen in this country in many years. They possess that rarity in New Zealand music, an aesthetic sensibility — and it manifests itself in instrumental music which exotic, evocative, rides intelligent dynamics and is endlessly evolving. The instrumentation is based around rock (guitars, keyboards, rhythm section) but into that they pull Persian lute, sitar, violin . . . It makes for an album that almost seems to grow in your hearing, to take on a life of its own. It is quasi-psychedelic, improvised world music at one level, but sounds like nothing else in New Zealand’s musical landscape.” Graham Reid, Elsewhere

CAIRO KNIFE FIGHT
Cairo Knife Fight have pared their line-up down to an essential duo – guitarist Aaron Tokona of Weta and drummer Nick Gaffaney of enough bands to mention to fill a phone book have been in the studio working on an album of effects-drenched heavy duty progedelica that is going to blow some minds at these shows. Fresh from supporting Them Crooked Vultures on their NZ tour, this band will no doubt impress.

SPARTACUS R
The Wellington institution that is Spartacus R needs no introduction. The band like a sound that can challenge the listener but also keep them in a trance of entertained excitement. When the six members come together, they combine a diverse range of musical and stylistic influences, and a penchant for brown shirts, to create a sound that may be described as a “neo-lounge, Groove-laden psychedelia”…

Welcome to your campus! The Buildings & Facilities service cares for the buildings and grounds and we hope the information below will help keep you safe and comfortable here. Please carry your student ID card with you whenever you are on campus, since we do get impostors trying to access our services and facilities for free. You have paid for your privileges and we want to save them all for you.

Massey Security phone number – 0800 MASS 50

Buildings & Facilities provides 24/7 security. If you are concerned or feel uneasy at any time, just ring 0800 MASS 50 from your cell phone, or 62222 from any Massey phone. We do get thieves on campus, especially during the first few weeks of semester. It pays to keep your valuables close and secure. If you lose any property, please report it to the helpdesk. If you are lucky, it will be in our ‘lost property’ collection.

EMERGENCIES ON CAMPUS
During your first classes at the beginning of semester you should be provided with information on what to do in a campus emergency (e.g. fire, earthquake, etc). If you haven’t seen this information, ask one of your lecturers to explain the campus evacuation procedures and the location of the assembly area for your building. Plan in your own mind how you would react in an emergency situation. Your life and the lives of others could depend on your actions.

If you are not sure how serious an emergency is, call 0800 MASS 50 from your cell phone, or 62222 from any Massey phone.

ACCIDENT REPORTING
If you are hurt on campus, on a field trip or while on practicum you need to complete a Massey University accident/incident form. You can pick up a form from the helpdesk or from your School/College Administrators, Student Central or the Student Health Centre. This information helps the University to comply with Health & Safety Legislation and will remain confidential. It also helps the University to work towards ensuring that similar incidents or accidents do not happen again.

ACCESS CARDS
You can collect your student access card from the Pyramid (outside Student Central) during Orientation Week. After that, cards will be available from Rex Nairn – Room Bookings & Timetabling Officer. Rex is based in room 5A29, just by the helpdesk. On the first Monday of each month, Rex will be in the Great Hall, Museum Building/Block 10.

Your student access card is programmed with access requirements that match your enrolment. If you find your card is not admitting you to a room you need, just ask your department administrator to email Rex authorising the addition of that room to your card. For most 2010 students the card will be valid from 22nd February until 15th October. Access times are:

Block 10 – Museum Building 7.00am to midnight
Other blocks 7.00am to 11.00pm

It’s a very good idea to write your student ID number on your card. If your card is faulty, please bring it to Rex, who will replace it free of charge. If you lose your access card, or it is stolen from you, please notify the helpdesk as soon as you can. There will be a $15 charge to replace it. You pay this to the cashier in Student Central and bring the receipt to the helpdesk. You will also need to show us your student ID card.

Please – never let a stranger hitchhike into the campus buildings on your access card.

SMOKE-FREE CAMPUS
We would like to remind you of the following:

- All campus buildings are totally smoke free.
- Campus grounds are smoke free except for
designated smoking areas.
- The smoke free policy applies 24/7.
